What Happened in Afghanistan?

On 16 August 2021, the Afghan forces lost the war against the Taliban without US defence support. From then on, the Taliban seized back control of Afghanistan.

Even before the Taliban takeover, Afghanistan recorded the largest number of refugees in the world, not to mention after the Taliban set foot in the country, thousands of Afghans who fled their country, have become new and even undocumented refugees in Iran, Pakistan, and Tajikistan.

In order to assist those Afghan refugees, UNHCR has not only provided necessities for them but also ensured protection monitoring in some provinces. Moreover, together with the countries neighbouring Afghanistan, UNHCR is planning for the potential future movement of Afghan refugees.
